Dreamwidth!
Mar. 27th, 2009 08:48 pmDreamwidth is going into open beta April 30! YAY! \o/!
Why am I so excited about Dreamwidth? Well - here. Pause for a second. Think about everything that has ever bothered you about LJ. Big things - "They're owned by a giant evil corporation" - and small things - "why can't I upload more than one icon at a time?". Chances are, every single one of them, Dreamwidth has either fixed it, or has plans to do so.
Here are my top ten things DW is doing:
10. LJ-cuts in syndicated feeds!
9. Super-easy journal export to PDF!
8. Cross-platform LJ user tags! "lj site=ij user=stellar_dust" will automatically put a little yellow face and link to the right journal!
7. Posts can be scheduled in advance.
6. 100% customizable S2 styles that WORK!
5. Larger length limits - on entries, comments, usernames, interests - everywhere.
4. Consolidated, cross-platform flists! At least, I hope they managed to find a way to do this, without being evil.
3. Multiple personal accounts controlled by one, over-arching account! Especially good for RPers, but never fear, I will find a use for it.
2. Friendslist broken down into: people who can read my locked posts; people whose journals I'm reading; people whose locked posts I can read; and people who fit all of the above categories!
1. 100% creative-commons and open source, with no ads, no outside investment, and a commitment to openness!
There are many, many, many more, which you can read about on this page. And browse around the links here, too.
After April 30, I will slowly be transitioning to DW, and away from LJ, IJ, & JF. I don't know how long the transition will take, or if I will ever *completely* leave, but major operations are going to go there. I hope a lot of you will join me. Hit me up for an invite code when the time comes!
(Did any of you notice my stealth!DW icon, which
melannen made? Is it not awesome?)
... as a side note, those of you with IJ accounts who've been camping the username: they did a purge of inactive accounts recently; if you think you might ever want to use it, head over there and undelete your account. I think there's about five people on my LJ flist who that applies to.
